Nationwide are part of the link network. Nationwide do not generally charge
to use their machines anyway even for non-customers who can use link. I
think the machine comes up with a message 'this machine will not charge you
for this transaction'. ISTR M&S have similar machine in their stores. My
concern would be if the frontline employees get the job of filling them or
holding onto the keys to the machines. Libraries are not banks they do not
have as many security devices against theft or armed robbery.

Thanks Julian
If Nationwide ATM's in libraries are freely usable by such a broad
constorium of other banks and building societies (& hopefully available to
other banks to join on the same non-charging conditions), then this will be
great initiative

As one of the last few genuine building societies, I am delighted to
support Nationwide in this initiative. (And yes, I am a customer.)
Nationwide cash tills are normally part of a broad consortium of other banks
and building societies. Not sure whether this is the case here.

Question: will these be free to all card holders or only those with
Nationwide accounts? If they are serious about their 'anti-poverty'
stance as opposed to finding an easy PR tool, they should make any ATMs
charge free to all bank account holders - not only Nationwide account
holders. Perhaps participating libraries should insist on this?

The Nationwide Building Society is planning to put free cash machines in
libraries as a way of providing people in poorer areas with an alternative
to fee-charging ATMs.
