Dear Colleagues
We are trying to address the problem of retrieving library stock which has become long overdue.
Our system has been for a number of years to send out, after an item has become overdue, 3 letters at stated intervals - first (after 1 week + 1day), second (after a further 2 weeks), then a final Invoice (2 weeks further on from that). After the invoice is sent, access to pc's in the LRC is restricted until settlement of account, but exceptions are sometimes made to enable students to complete their set work, usually on production of a tutor's note. This method only works of course if the student is still attending College.
The system has worked reasonably well up to a point, but on analysing our stock figures, there is still an unaccetably high level of items still long overdue and unrecovered.
I would be very interested to hear what measures other Colleges (FE) use to retrieve their stock which has become long overdue. Replies will be summarised for the List.
Kind regards
