10.15 Food for thought
Ginny Franklin, Academic Librarian (Science Faculty), Loughborough
University
This 'sweetener' will investigate the different literacies that can be
developed as part of a 'traditional IL' workshop. Participants will perform
a variety of activities and discuss how they might be applied to their
subject areas or institutions.

11.30 "Sit still, face the front, hands on heads": delivering sessions to
large groups
Chris Powis, Deputy Director (Academic Services), University of Northampton
Most of us are faced at some point with having to teach large groups of
students. This session will explore how to keep their attention, make our
points and, crucially, get them actively involved in learning when they are
crammed in a lecture theatre.
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Beyond skills: the information literate research student
Gwyneth Price, Student Services Librarian, Institute of Education; Fellow
of the Centre for Distance Education, University of London
This session will explore issues specifically related to working with
doctoral students and their supervisors and include discussion of
strategies for raising awareness with academics and administrative staff at
the course development stage as well as practical ideas for working with
international and part-time learners.
14.30 Break
14:45 Can't I just upload it to the VLE?
Lyn Parker, Academic Services Development Librarian, University of
Sheffield Library
This interactive session will look at the differences in pedagogy between
