SAGE Launches American Journal of Men's Health
Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, and Singapore (January 31, 2006) - SAGE,
publisher of over 460 scholarly journals, is pleased to announce the
launch of the American Journal of Men's Health (AJMH). Edited by
Demetrius J. Porche, DNS, APRN, of the Louisiana State University Health
Sciences Center, this new quarterly, peer-reviewed journal will be an
essential resource for frontline care providers and patient educators,
policy development specialists, researchers, and scholars. The first
issue will debut in March 2007.
AJMH will be a core resource for cutting-edge information regarding
men's health and illness. The journal will publish papers from all
health, behavioral, and social disciplines, including but not limited to
medicine, nursing, allied health, public health, health
psychology/behavioral medicine, and medical sociology and anthropology.
The journal will publish original articles, research briefs, editorials,
health policy and legislative updates, legal and ethical perspectives,
practice guidelines, case reports, media reviews, and news regarding
upcoming symposia, conferences, and other related events.
Dr. Porche's editorial "A Call for American Journal of Men's Health," to
be published in the first issue can currently be accessed online at
http://www.sagepub.com/upm-data/12627_AJMH_Editorial_Final.pdf.
"Men's health disparities are a critical factor affecting the lives of
men, women, children, families, communities, and society at large,"
commented Dr. Porche, the journal's editor. "Attention to men's health
and the development of a men's health research agenda are critical to
ensure the health promotion, disease prevention, and adequate treatment
of health alterations."
"There's a huge need for this journal. Men account for 49% of the U.S.
population* and as there are no primary journals that concentrate
specifically on men's health issues in America, the American Journal of
Men's Health will be at the forefront of this important area," stated
Dr. Peter Binfield, SAGE Journals Editorial Director. "The editor's
focus will not be merely on disease, but also on preservation and
promotion of health."
SAGE is offering free online access to the first volume (4 issues in
2007). Interested institutions should register online at
https://online.sagepub.com/cgi/register?registration=FTN01346.
Institutional subscriptions are available in Combined (Print and
E-access), E-access, and Print Only options. The journal will be
available electronically on the enhanced SAGE Journals Online platform
beginning in early March. The journal's homepage URL will be
