Hi,
Is anyone else out there having problems accessing 2007 content for their
MIT Press journals?
We only found out we've got a problem because a user has just informed a
colleague of mine that they couldn't access the 2007 content for Artificial
Life. This prompted me to check access to all our MIT Press subscriptions.
I've just found out that we've no 2007 access to 3/4 of our MIT Press
subscriptions where there is 2007 content available on the MIT Press
Journals site. The 5th title we can't check as there is no 2007 content yet.
We had earlier queried loss of access to two of these titles when we had
received an alert from Highwire where these titles are also hosted and which
were expired on the 2nd January 2007. We queried this with the publisher and
a gracing period of two months was applied to these two Highwire
subscriptions. I was informed that they had received the 2007 renewals from
Ebsco for these two titles from Ebsco, our agent, at the end of December and
that they would process them as soon as possible.
I queried this loss of access with MIT Press journals and was told that
there had been a problem with the payment for these titles and that there
were outstanding orders still waiting to be processed. I queried with them
why they hadn't applied gracing to all of our online only subscriptions
whilst payments were processed as surely the last thing they would want to
do was do deny access to the 2007 content for our end users.
I've since queried this with our agent, Ebsco, and it appears that payment
for all of these subscriptions was made at the end of December and that the
payment is still outstanding. Not only that but it appears that there are a
total of 1112 orders on the outstanding payment, which suggests we are not
alone in our access problems!
Shouldn't MIT Press Journals already had some gracing policy in force on its
own site if there were some problems with processing payments?
Secondly shouldn't the administrative area of the MIT Press Journals provide
administrators with more useful information? For us it just has several
lines for each title just saying Coverage: all articles. If I had just have
looked at this information I might have thought everything was fine. As it
is I've had to try and open a 2007 article from each of our subscriptions to
identify the full extent of our problem.
What more can I say.....
Cheers
Lesley
