ah thanx
nothing like hard data to tame a wild guess

& i wonder if the tricky church deal you mention
suffices to explain why the parties wrote & announced
last spring in
http://www.china.org.cn/english/2006/Mar/162832.htm
as follows
> The two sides reiterated that they will finish the
delimitation of the remaining two parts of land along
the China-Russia boundary line by
the end of 2007. Both sides also pointed out with
satisfaction that the preparation for delimitation is
proceeding as scheduled by both sides.

or could these uses of the word delimitation just be
mistranslations for demarcation

but in any case could you say any more about this deal
& the further modification it caused or may cause
presumably in both the delimitation & demarcation
unless the alignment in the agreement text youve
posted already avoids the church

curious

also
at the end of this message are some more guessed
answers to the other 4 parts of the original query

Victor:
Please find attached an unofficial translation of the
Agreement which we
used to align the boundary over imagery. It was
ratified by both
parties' legislatures and demarcation across the
islands, we believe, is
complete. The tricky deal, if you have been following
the issue, was how
to run the boundary around a small church that the
Russians build along
the southern part of the island boundary.

the agreement text was here

first in general
i dont know but the professor may still be reachable
here
http://staffroster.metu.edu.tr/my_staff_roster.php?ssn=MTMxMjAy&action=Publications

&
useful for all 4 borders you mention him in connection
with
& easily obtainable here if wanted
http://www.crisisgroup.org/home/index.cfm?id=1439&CFID=32460074&CFTOKEN=40318448
is the full pdf text of the international crisis group
or icg
asia report number 33
dated 4 april 2002
on central asian border disputes & potential conflict

but specifically
re kyrgyzstan uzbekistan
per pdf pp12 & 18ff of the above
out of the 1400km total at least 148km were still
mined as of 2002
209km were fully demarcated
406km remained unstudied by the joint commission
& more than 140 points remained in dispute

&
this 2003 report
http://www.eurasianet.org/resource/kyrgyzstan/hypermail/200308/0016.shtml
said 679km had been agreed
& 342km of additional agreement were imminent
comprising in all an 85 percent delimitation of an
1100km total

a 300km disparity with the above km total btw

this 2004 report said at least 50 places remained
contested
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/message/14759
& another reported the boundary commissions deadlocked
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/message/14806

this 2005 article said there was no end in sight for
the demarcation process
http://www.asiaquarterly.com/content/view/28

mines were cleared in 2005 per
http://www.irinnews.org/report.aspx?reportid=29426

in mid 2006 delimitation talks were again imminent
http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticle/2006/6/5553438f-c619-4b9d-9daf-190b456e8ceb.html

delimitation of 130km still hampered by disputes in
2007 per uscia

& re kazakhstan uzbekistan
purportedly fully demarcated by 2005 per the above
asia quarterly
but this could just be a misreading of the 2002 icg
report
insofar as no later source is cited

the icg report itself said at pdf pp12ff
of the 2150km total only 194km had been delimited by
2000
yet 96 percent was supposedly delineated or settled by
2001
& demarcation was not finalized by 2002
when many problems remained

fully resolved delimitation of entire 2440km border in
2002 per
http://missions.itu.int/~kazaks/eng/archive/0209/n0209a.htm

another 300km disparity with the above km total btw

& fwiw a final delimitation agreement was reached in
2003
per this 2005 account
http://kazakhstan.neweurasia.net/?p=31
which reported only some unilateral demarcation
& no genuine demarcation ever

& yet it also says
on one hand
in principle kz & uz have resolved their border
demarcation & delimitation in 2003
and on another hand
even if demarcation is completed in future
etc etc

so again mistranslations & misconceptions are probable

a better confirmation of the 2003 delimitation
agreement is in
http://www.jamestown.org/publications_details.php?volume_id=407&issue_id=3194&article_id=2369082

in 2004 full demarcation was expected by 2005 per
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/message/14806
but matters were stalled at that time

& generally
tense & severely restricted & trending negative ever
since

uscia in 2007 says only that demarcation commenced in
2004

re tajikistan uzbekistan
icg pdf pp16ff
tense
severely restricted
but by 2002 they had agreed to talk & loosen up

mines cleared in 2005
http://www.irinnews.org/report.aspx?reportid=29426

mine clearance & delimitation talks continue in 2007
per uscia

& finally re kyrgyzstan tajikistan
icg pdf pp23ff
tense
severely restricted
delimitation talks suspended in 1999

& resumed late in 2002
per this early 2003 report which said 40 disputed
areas remained
http://www.eurasianet.org/resource/kyrgyzstan/hypermail/200301/0004.shtml

disputes delay delimitation in 2007 per uscia

hoping you can use some of this
or that someone can enlarge on it

cheers & io terminalia
