Geographies of Children, Youth and Gender Research Group
Research Fellowship
Salary: RA1A £25,858 p.a. incl. of London Weighting
Full time, Fixed Term contract. Starting date: 1 May 2007 for 18 months
We wish to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to work on a project, funded by the ESRC/DFID joint scheme. The project, led by Dr Nicola Ansell (Brunel), Dr Elsbeth Robson (Brunel, based in Malawi) and Dr Lorraine van Blerk (Reading), is entitled 'Averting 'New Variant Famine' in Southern Africa: building food-secure livelihoods with AIDS-affected young people'. The postholder will be working with the Geographies of Children, Youth and Gender Research Group at Brunel University, but will spend a total of nearly eleven months in rural communities in Malawi and Lesotho, where they will undertake participatory research with young people and adult community members. They will also interview practitioners and policy makers. In addition to data collection, they will participate in project planning, organisation, analysis of data and dissemination, including publication in academic journals. The successful candidate will have completed (or be near completing) a PhD or equivalent in human geography, sociology, anthropology or a cognate discipline. They will have experience of qualitative data collection and analysis. They will also have experience of research, or other relevant work, in sub-Saharan Africa, and have worked with young people.
The successful candidate for this post will be required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check.
