Hi Tracy,
I don't have any suggestions for a graphical wiki, but with regard to an
interactive timeline that does something similar to what you describe
below, we developed one for the Universal Leonardo web site,
www.universalleonardo.org.
The interactive/visual timeline is at the top of each web page and shows
the thematic interconnections within the works of Leonardo da Vinci
(indicated when hovering on the coloured dots). The interconnections are
mapped onto a grid which visualises a selection of works by Leonardo (balck
dots) arranged into 4 categories (paintings, drawings, inventions and
manuscripts) and a timeline of key events (Life & Times). Each dot on the
timeline represents either a work or a historical event and links to a web
page (in html).
This was done in flash so it might not be what you want, but if you would
like to know a bite more about it, do get in touch.
Hope it helps
Paola
