The University of Liverpool is proud to announce the newly formed
School of Languages, Cultures and Area Studies, which offers research
supervision in the following areas:
Language and Cultural Areas: French; German; Spanish; Latin American
Studies; US and Caribbean Literature; Italian; Galician; Catalan;
Portuguese;
Corsican.
Research Themes: Gender Studies; Medieval Historiography;
Sociolinguistics; Imperialism and Colonial & Postcolonial Studies;
Film Studies; War and Conflict Studies; Contemporary cyberliterature;
Political Economy; Subaltern and Indigenous Representation; Social
Movements

MA Bursaries
The School is currently offering two UK/EU fees-only bursaries for
students applying to study the MA in Modern Languages or the MA in
Latin American Studies. Applicants should contact the Director of

Fully Funded ESRC Studentship in Latin American Studies
SOCLAS includes RILAS, a leading centre for research on Latin America
(2001 RAE grade 5), and offers postgraduate programmes embracing
Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Development Studies, History,
Literature, Politics, Political Economy, and Sociology (see
www.liv.ac.uk/ILAS <http://www.liv.ac.uk/ILAS> ).
It invites applications from candidates with/expecting at least a good
IIi for:
The MA in Latin American Studies (1 year f/t, 2 years p/t)
The MA/PhD in Latin American Studies, for which one "1+3" ESRC
studentship, covering fees, maintenance, and fieldwork, is available
(see www.esrc.ac.uk)
The PhD in Latin American Studies: candidates who have, or will have,
completed recognized MA training elsewhere are eligible for nomination
for the ESRC "+3" studentship

Fully Funded University Research Studentship in
Latin American Cyberculture and Cyberliterature
The School invites applications from candidates wishing to pursue PhD
research within the growing area of Latin American cyberculture and
cyberliterature. Objects of study could include performance art on the
Internet, blogs, cyber poetry, hypertext narrative, e-magazines, and
other electronic communications.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold or expect to receive
by autumn 2007 an MA or equivalent qualification for a higher research
degree.
