Colleagues,
The infamous footage of protesters being batoned by RUC officers that
appeared on British TV in 1968 was, I understand, shot by RTE camera
men.(see THE TROUBLES, Taylor Downing) Robert Lamrock of UTV tells me
that many people assume that the definitive material for 1968-73 is the
BBC's but UTV and RTE footage is also valuable and was widely used in
bulletins/current affairs.
What does the BUFVC newsreel project have on this? [log in to unmask]

hi martin,
i have asked about this and broadcasters would have had partner
organisations known as consortium partners with whom they swapped
stories.
i don't know for sure was there such a relatinship with RTE but the BBC
certainly used a lot of their material. On the question of how footage
got
to London, I am told that by the late 60s it most likely would have been
edited in Belfast and sent down the wire to London.
