Hallo!
This new seed atlas has been compiled by staff of the Department of
Botany, Innsbruck University. Currently two volumes are available:
Caryophyllaceae and Ranunculaceae. More volumes are planned. The seeds
used are mainly of central European (Austrian?) distribution and are
housed in the seed collection of the Department. Emphasis is placed on SEM
photographs and in this respect the new seed atlas contrasts with other
such works. Consequently, the atlas is not of much help for gross
identification of an unknown taxon. It rather helps to distinguish taxa
based on surface micromorphology. The photographs are (very) good and
certainly much better than the ones in Berggren. However, the size of a
single photograph is sometimes rather small.
Greetings, Ursula
