Dear All,
Arch-Justice now counts more than fifty members. It is a good number to get
some
discussion going, but of course we meed to expand and we would therefore be
grateful if you could carry on spreading the word about AGJ and Arch-Justice.
We would like to remind you that the manifesto for Archaeologists for Global
Justice can be found at http://www.shef.ac.uk/archaeology/global-justice.html.
We are planning to write short notes about AGJ in various archaeology
newsletters and other outlets, but AGJ belongs not just to us but to anybody
who is prepared to embrace its principles. Consequently please feel free to let
the world know about the existence of this informal group in whatever manner
you think fit. A reference to the web page can help to avoid any potential
misunderstandings about the aim and remit of AGJ.
In terms of future activities Sarah and I are planning to organise a session
sponsored by AGJ for the Sixth meeting of the World Archaeological Congress,
WAC-6, which will be held in Ireland at the the University College Dublin from
29th June-4 July 2008. The session will be aimed at presenting AGJ as an active
reality within the archaeological world and will encourage the presentation of
case studies (theoretical and practical) revolving around the theme of the
interaction between archaeology and global justice. We will of course provide
more details in due time but if anybody is interested in taking part it is not
too soon to start thinking about it.
All the best,
Umberto and Sarah
