TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP IN STATISTICS
MASSEY UNIVERSITY, NEW ZEALAND
The Statistics Group at Massey University, Palmerston North,
New Zealand has available a half-load Teaching Assistantship.
This position is intended to support a student studying for
a higher degree (including PhD, Masters and Honours year)
in Statistics, commencing in 2007. Applications are invited
from both domestic and overseas students.
A half-load Graduate Teaching Assistantship requires
approximately 6 hours work per week during semester,
for a salary of NZ$11,956 and 50% payment of tuition fees
for all New Zealand, Australian, French and German
students, and all PhD students.
Teaching duties during the academic teaching year will
include supervision of laboratory classes, conducting
tutorials, marking assignments, and the general support
of Statistics teaching staff.
POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Statistics Group has available funding to supply
top-up scholarships to outstanding applicants. Enquiries

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Statistics Group comprises 12 permanent academic
staff, with a wide variety of research interests.
Particular strengths of the Group include nonparametric
smoothing, biostatistics, official statistics, statistical
engineering and stochastic modelling in geophysics. The
Group is based within the Institute of Information Sciences
and Technology (http://www-ist.massey.ac.nz/) at the
Massey University's Turitea campus in Palmerston North,
New Zealand.
Massey Palmerston North is one of New Zealand's leading
universities with particular strengths in the life
sciences, agricultural, horticultural and veterinary
teaching and research. The city of Palmerston North is
the fourth largest on New Zealand's North Island. It
has the wealth of facilities you would expect to find
in a major city, yet it is compact, friendly and accessible.
