Role Description
1. Contract Title: Data management in Computational Biology
2. Purpose of Contract: To provide key support to provide the data
curation and maintenance requirements of the Computational Biology group
3. Organisational Relationships: Will report to the Computational
Biology group.
4. Major Duties: Key role in the management of many different
forms of electronic data relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. Will
be expected to provide a high standard of data maintenance through the
use of scripting languages, database work and significant degree of
scientific curation. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain
practical experience of managing biological data within drug discovery.

Education Level
MSc PhD or equivalent experience
Experience
* Must have a biology or chemistry background.
* Must possess significant experience in applying IT skills in a
biological or chemistry context.
* Must have experience post MSc in role similar to described here.
* Able to provide examples of programming with biological data.
* Demonstrated experience of database, scripting and data
management in a bioinformatics environment
* Previous experience in scientific data curation.
Technical Ability
* Demonstrated hands on programming in at least 1 scripting
language (e.g. Perl) - Can independantly code complex scripts in Perl
without supervision.
* Able to translate scientific data issues into IT solutions.
* Practical experience with bioinformatics databases.
* Practical experience with the use of relational databases.
* Extensive skills in either scripting or other programming
language (e.g. Java).
* Some experience of Unix (e.g. shell scripting).

drugs

drug discovery
