Wiley Re-launches American Journal of Hematology

Redesign of journal features new Editor-in-Chief, graphical
look, and editorial focus

Hoboken, N.J., February 27, 2007 – Global publisher John Wiley &
Sons, Inc., today announced the re-launch of American Journal of
Hematology, the first-ever redesign of the journal since it was
launched by Ananda Prasad, M.D., Founding Editor and Editor-in-
Chief, more than 30 years ago. The re-launch coincides with the
appointment of Carlo Brugnara, M.D., as Editor-in-Chief and will
include over the course of 2007 the introduction of new
editorial features, an updated cover and interior design, and an
expanded editorial aims and scope.

Dr. Brugnara, Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School
and Director of the Hematology Laboratory at Children’s Hospital
in Boston, was selected from a large pool of qualified
candidates by an organized search committee. Dr. Brugnara
assumes his editorial responsibilities for the American Journal
of Hematology beginning with the March 2007 issue.

“I believe that American Journal of Hematology can distinguish
itself by emphasizing excellence in clinical research and
practice in addition to good, basic science,” said Dr. Brugnara.
“The journal will provide material that is clinically relevant
to both physicians in training and clinicians treating patients
with blood diseases. I hope to expand our readership beyond
clinical hematologists and oncologists to include cardiologists,
neurologists, anesthesiologists, and primary care physicians
dealing with blood-related issues.”

Some of the major initiatives Dr. Brugnara will oversee in 2007
include the inauguration of an annual Young Investigator’s Award
in December 2007; open access to selected archival content;
shortened review times for manuscript submissions; and
complimentary two-month subscriptions for Fellows in hematology.
The March 2007 issue of American Journal of Hematology features
a new cover design, with a new manuscript style to follow by
mid-year. In addition, the re-launched journal will have a more
internationally-focused Editorial Board reflecting its mission
to publish the best research in hematology from around the
world.

“Dr. Brugnara brings experience, a fresh perspective, and great
enthusiasm to the journal,” said Danette Somers, Associate
Publisher of Medicine at Wiley. “We look forward to
collaborating with him in the years to come to ensure the
fullest possible growth and development for American Journal of
Hematology under his editorial leadership.”

American Journal of Hematology is available in print and online
via Wiley InterScience, Wiley’s online publishing platform. For
more information, please visit the journal’s homepage at
