and finally I can't not mention Parajanov's extraordinary 'Sayat Nova' (also
known as 'Color of Pomegranates' in the US) - life of the poet, lots of
Armenian poetry in it, not narrative and not even "fragmented narrative" but
just a textured celebration, medieval film-making at its best - Deleuze
calls it "definitely the masterpiece of a material language of objects".
i was writing a bit on Paradjanov recently and so looked up the dvd editions
of his films, and the best Sayat Nova one is from FSF - get it (with english
subs) from French e-tailers like FNAC and, slightly cheaper, Alapage - works
out at about 15 of the best cinematic pounds you'll ever spend...
Did I mention I really enjoyed the film?
