Hi Therona,
I've been following this string for the last few days.
A whisper test might be more useful but is not really
quantifiable. An audiogram performed at whatever
interval would show any hearing deterioration. This
could support or disprove any work related hearing
loss complaints/claims.
Additionally, if a risk assessment has recognised
noise exposure as a hazard, it would be hard to
support a 'whisper test'.
We perform a large number of health screens here, as
well as a Hearing Conservation Programme, and include
hearing tests. I have been surprised at the number of
audiograms which showed existing hearing problems. we
are certainly keeping the ENT people busy.
