Glad to see this discussion continuing on a Monday morning! For what's it's
worth I have been training, alongside part-time day job, as a psychodynamic
counsellor (involving college days and a clinical placement)and am now in
the final year of the MSc. For financial reasons already touched on it
probably wouldn't be possible to do this full time and as I am still very
interested in the library and information profession am thinking I would
like to develop a hybrid/portfolio career involving the two strands
together.
Re pole dancing, I did a class at my gym last summer but they haven't
introduced it generally and I think it got a mixed reception. It was
difficult to learn it properly when it turned out we had to share a pole
with 4 others!

Good heavens, Joanne, you must be on an enormous salary (or jazzercise
instructors are paid near the minimum wage) - if I re-trained as a masseur I
could earn at least 3 times my current hourly rate - & that's without
offering 'extras' ;-)

Well I have been a Jazzercise instructor in the past but to earn enough to
do it full-time I would have to teach a million classes a week!! Never tried
pole-dancing (except down the pub after a few - don't ask)...

As an adjunct to poor Fiona having to look for a new job, I'd love to know
if anyone knows of any librarians who have left the profession completely
and what careers they went to?
I don't mean the obvious IT/knowledge management sort of things but
something completely different e.g librarian to psychologist
thanks
Sarah
