FWIW I once read Arthur Koestler doing a put-down of Darwin's theory tho
cannot recall much of it. I was away for a week and am just catching up
on posts so not sure I have got a good grasp of this one---can you
rephrase your argument for me please?

The analogy, which is gratuitously strained, is actually more like
