Inversion, Modelling and Analysis of GPR in Near-Surface Environments
(IMAGINE)
Postdoctoral Research Assistant (12 months, fixed term in the first
instance with the possibility of an extension to 24 months)
Starting salary: (Research RA1A) Keele Grade 7, £26,402
Applied and Environmental Geophysics Research Group,
Faculty of Natural Sciences,
Research Institute for the Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied
Mathematics,
Keele University.
We are seeking to appoint a high-calibre, postdoctoral researcher to
work on the above EPSRC funded project within the Applied and
Environmental Geophysics Group. This project will attempt to integrate
modelling and inversion methodologies into a single programme of
research that will develop, new innovative solutions to the problem of
GPR data interpretation.
Research will focus on the key application areas of landmine
detection/discrimination, services mapping and characterisation
(particularly leaking non-metallic fuel, water and sewage pipes) and the
identification, location and characterisation of buried building
foundations and/or similar structures. The work will utilise data
collected from real-world situations with the goal of producing an
analysis and interpretation technique that is practical, efficient and
comprehensively tested.
The project is a collaboration between Keele University, The Institute
for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment of the Italian National
Council of Research (IREA-CNR) in Naples, Italy and STATS Ltd., St
Albans, UK.
You must have a good first degree and a PhD (or near to completing a
PhD) in a computational Geophysics, Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science or Applied Mathematics discipline. Background/experience in one
or more of the following areas: GPR data collection, processing and
interpretation, numerical modelling, inversion techniques and Matlab/C++
programming would be desirable. This is a 12 months, fixed-term
position in the first instance with the possibility of an extension to
24 months if appropriate funding becomes available.
