2007 LEVERHULME MAJOR
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
The Leverhulme Trustees propose to offer up to 25 awards for individual
research in UK universities in the humanitiesand social sciences.
The Fellowships, held for either two or three years, are designed to
enable researchers to devote themselves to a project of outstanding
originality and significance which is capable of being completed within
the duration of the award, and which is appropriate for such a period of
concentrated research. To this end, the Trust will support a full-time
replacement lecturer whose appointment for the period of the award
will allow the successful applicant to be granted paid leave from all or
most university duties.
Eligible applicants: Candidates must be well-established
researchers employed at a UK university at the time of application (and
throughout the duration of the Fellowship). They must be able to
demonstrate scholarship at the highest levels, sufficient to have won
international recognition. Weight is given to cases where particularly
onerous teaching or administration loads in recent years have impeded
research progress.
Closing date for applications: Midnight, Friday 4 May 2007.
Starting date of award: normally no later than 1 October 2008.

Ph.D. Studentships
Two full time studentships (one ESRC Quota Award and one Sheffield
Hallam University Studentship) are available from September 2007
in the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR).
CRESR is one of the leading policy-orientated research centres in the
UK, undertaking major research projects for government departments
and research charities. Particular areas of expertise include  
regeneration
and neighbourhood renewal, housing and labour markets. Successful
applicants will be located alongside existing higher degree students
within this thriving research environment.
The bursaries will be payable to the successful applicants for a
maximum of three years. Applicants should have a good honours
degree and ideally a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
