UK TRANSPLANT
Vacancy for
Statistician I
UK Transplant is part of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). NHSBT is a Special
Health Authority within the NHS, responsible for managing the Bio Products
Laboratory, National Blood Service and UK Transplant. NHSBT is responsible
for
optimising the supply of blood, organs, plasma and tissues and raising the
quality,
effectiveness and efficiency of blood and transplant services. A vacancy
has arisen
for a statistician in the Statistics and Audit Directorate of UK
Transplant. This
Directorate provides a comprehensive statistical service to the transplant
community
in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, by undertaking analyses to address
particular
issues in organ transplantation, monitoring and evaluating organ allocation
procedures and patient survival rates, producing regular reports on transplant
activity, and responding to enquiries and requests for information from
government,
health authorities and the media.
This post gives an opportunity for recent or potential graduates from a
Masters
programme in statistics, or an undergraduate programme with a substantial
statistical component, to join a team of 16 statisticians and become
involved in a
wide range of interesting statistical activities. The post will involve
collaborative work
with clinicians and others working in organ transplantation, and so the
individual
appointed will have excellent communication skills. The ability to work to
deadlines,
both individually and as part of a team, is essential and some knowledge of
the SAS
software is desirable. The salary will be in the range £19,166 to £24,803
(Band 5)
dependent upon qualifications and experience, although an appointment is
likely to be
made at the lower end of this scale.
Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Dave Collett, the Director of
Statistics and Audit (email: [log in to unmask]
or telephone 0117 975 7546).
Applications can be submitted on-line via the NHS jobs website at
www.jobs.nhs.uk;
use the search word of Statistician with a location of Bristol.
The closing date for applications is Friday 2 March 2007.
Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 20 March 2007.
