Travel to Durban to attend the world’s most important international LIS
event – courtesy of CILIP.
The unique and vast World Library & Information Congress (organised by
IFLA) takes place in Durban, South Africa, 19-23 August. Up to 5,000
delegates will be attending the huge programme of sessions, meetings,
workshops, visits and social events on the theme of “Libraries for the
future: Progress, Development and Partnerships”.
The World Congress is the largest, and arguably the most important single
international LIS event in the world. As a CILIP member you are in a
unique position to receive financial assistance to attend this event.
There are two kinds of award available:
First-timer awards cover the total costs of attending the conference.
There are only two conditions: current CILIP membership, and never having
attended an IFLA conference (other than in the UK) previously. These
grants give members an opportunity to enjoy the ‘IFLA experience’ with
guidance and support from CILIP. Pick up invaluable CPD experiences from
a range of global perspectives, network with overseas colleagues and
perhaps get involved in the work of IFLA.
The number of awards is strictly limited and the selection panel will
judge applications on the strength of the application submitted.
Partial awards offer a lump sum towards the costs of conference
attendance. These are primarily intended for IFLA ‘activists’; preference
will be given to IFLA officers, members of sections and other committees,
those invited to give papers and those involved with discussion groups –
in that order.
Details and application forms are at

sistance>. The closing date for both awards is 13 April. If you have any
queries or would like a hard copy application form, please contact Angela
Frampton at CILIP (020 7255 0616; [log in to unmask])
