The list is a list of approved SUPPLIERS Pete, Not a list of approved
products.
If a school or LA in writing it's statement of requirement decides they
need to use Moodle or Sakai or COSe, then the suppliers have to work
with that.
Think of this as more a way of getting the vast number of schools not
engaged in the ICT process onboard... those who are already using
products and services that they are happy with can continue.
There is NO requirement to purchase from the framework, BUT if you are
an LA going through a huge procurement it may well make your life a lot
easier because the LPF has done part of the process and therefore you
only have to do a mini tender under EU regs, which should save a lot of
grief and hassle...

Subject: Re: [VLES] BECTA's Learning Platform Services Framework
I think the most striking thing about this list is the lack of an Open
Source VLE. It seems BECTA have failed to learn one of the most
important lessones from the FE experience which is that most colleages
have now moved away from commercial VLEs which were not very successful
and have started to move forward and make far more progress with Open
Source solutions.
Does anyone know if schools have to choose from this list or whether
this is just a recommendation.
