1. Call for panel proposals.
Archives or Users: Who owns history? is a joint Economic & Social
History Society of Scotland / Scottish Records Association conference to
be held at the University of Dundee on Saturday 26 May 2007.
Archivists, historians and other users will meet together to hear panels
presenting short papers followed by discussion.
There are many issues involving archives, the changing role of
archivists, and the needs of professional, amateur, local and family
historians. What records should be preserved and what is it acceptable
to discard? What are the problems with access and opening hours? What
is the role of digitisation and the internet and what is the impact on
research and access to original sources? Under what terms should
historians be able to access copies of archival material? These and
many more issues can be the focus of discussion.
We invite panel proposals from a variety of perspectives and on a
diverse range of themes. We envisage panels of three people with
speaking time per person of ten minutes, plus half an hour for
discussion. Panel proposals (maximum 300 words) should be sent to
[log in to unmask] by 31 January 2007. We look forward to
hearing from you."
