Professor of Operational Research Cardiff University School of Mathematics
The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales recently made an award of £5 million to set up a Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (WIMCS). Amongst other opportunities, the initiative will support seven new Chairs in the area of Mathematical Sciences. One of these Chairs will be in Operational Research.
The post holder will occupy a research chair for an initial four year period in WIMCS., and will be based in the School of Mathematics at Cardiff. During this time the successful candidate will be expected to be active in research, develop collaborations between groups in partner institutions, and to encourage income generation.
After this period the person appointed will revert to being a Professor in the School of Mathematics at Cardiff, and will undertake the normal activities of research, teaching and administration associated with a professor’s position.
Applications are invited from those with an outstanding research record, including evidence of ability to secure external funding. Much of the current research within the OR group is of an applied nature.
