What period are we talking about? Production of briquettes using tar
was not always successful. They tried it with anthracite dust at Hook
Colliery, in Pembrokeshire, UK, and it was apparently a failure. The
tar blocks were lying about for years afterwards - birds would stick
to them in hot weather.
