What Have You Got In That Box?
Regional/National Comedy, Screens & British Identity
An International Conference
organised by the CCM Research Centre at
The University of Salford, UK
31st May-1st June 2007
Comedy remains an underexplored area within film and television
studies. Regional comedy even more so. In order to address this, the focus of this
conference will be on comedy and its relation to regional and national identities as
perceived on and through British screens, be they Cockney wideboys, cheeky
Geordies, gormless northerners or frugal Scots. The conference wishes to consider
where these
comedy stereotypes emanate from, and what they tell us of about national and regional
identity.
Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
Andy Medhurst – University of Susex
Richard Dacre - Author - Trouble In Store
The organisers invite proposals for papers on the following topics (and beyond!)
