On the heels of the recent announcement (posted here a couple of weeks ago)
concerning the inaugeral conference of the European Network for Cinema and
Media Studies, the following gives further details about the www site for
the network which has just been launched. It is now possible to register
with the network by following the links provided. Details of the conference
can also be accessed through the site.
The following is posted on behalf of the network's steering committee.
Dear friends of NECS,
NECS, the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies, a platform for
exchange between scholars, archivists and programmers, is happy to
announce that its website is now online and open for registration.
You are invited to register as a member at www.necs-initiative.org or
http://necs-initiative.org and help the European Network for Cinema and
Media Studies become a reality.
Once you have registered, you are invited to establish your research
profile on the website and become a member of the NECS community (go to:
“community”/”edit profile”). To complete your research profile, you can
add a photograph (JPEG, not larger than 1MB). If you want, you can also e-
mail your photograph to [log in to unmask], and we will handle the
upload for you.
As a NECS member, you will have access to the membership section
which offers the following:
- the “publications” platform with important current contributions by
film and media scholars, archivists and curators
- the “community” section which introduces you to the other members of
the network and allows you to research members according to mutual
interests and possibilities for exchange and future collaborations
accross Europe
- the “references” section, a rapidly expanding research database with
bibliographical information on current publications in English,
French and other European languages, as well as on North American
Ph.D.s which can be researched online
- the “news” section which offers current information on conference
calls, festivals, events etc.
- the “forum” section for online exchanges among the members of the
network
- the “work groups” section which offers a number of sections and study
groups devoted to specialized areas of research and interest in which
you can participate, or which you can create and run.
Please note: Email and Addresses and other personal information will
not be made available to other members. No information will be passed
on to a third party.
On the website and in the “news” section you will also find our Call
for Papers for the NECS Vienna conference which is scheduled to take
place in Vienna, Austria, on June 21-23 2007. Please note that the
deadline for the call for papers has been extended until the end of
February 2007.
Calls for papers, announcements regarding upcoming events, references
to current publications and other information that may be of interest to
other NECS members should be sent to [log in to unmask] and
will be posted on the website.
