Dear Rose
All loans requested from us (ie. CA/U-1) are read here in our main library
in a designated reading room. We never allow anything to leave this
building. Items to be posted back to originating libraries are returned by
recorded delivery or CF post - excepting standard loans from BLDSC which
are returned by normal post.
Photocopies received from BLDSC are normally sent direct to the end user.
Photocopies received from other institutions are posted here. We then send
the student an email (or occasionally a letter) asking them to pick up.We
will post on to them if required, but they normally have College or
Departmental addresses so this involves internal mail rather than the
postal service.
All items loaned to other institutions are for library use only - never for
home reading. We ask that everything is returned using Royal Mail(and not
through a transport scheme such as Hayes). Some libraries use a courier such
as DHL (which uses a tracking system). This method of return is also fine.
Sometimes we request that an item should be returned to us by recorded
delivery;Eg.for a particularly old book or one that has multiple parts.
However, some institutions always use recorded delivery anyway. The onus is
on the borrowing library to return items safely.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Alison Zammer
