NHS Ayrshire and Arran has been committed to the inclusion of health economics and health economists in its decision-making processes for over a decade. During that time the team and its influence has grown considerably by bringing a range of economic techniques and principles to an array of complex problems. As a consequence of recent changes to the team, we seek to appoint to the following posts.
Health Economist (Permanent Position)

Are you a health economist? Tired of not influencing NHS policy and direction? Working in isolation from your fellow professionals? Or, are you constantly seeking bits and pieces of funding from a variety of sources?
The post of Health Economist requires an individual with a highly developed specialist knowledge which has been acquired through a combination of in-depth experience and post graduate qualification. The postholder will provide specialist, high quality, applied economic analyses on a range of issues in a highly complex, sensitive and contentious environment whilst leading on those areas of highest impact and priority. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to ensure effective communication, display political astuteness and negotiate complex issues. He/she will also possess a degree in economics, a post graduate qualification in health economics combined with 2-3 years' experience working in an applied economics context preferably within a Health Service or health economics environment.
Junior Health Economist (Permanent Position)

Or do you have a degree in economics and 2-3 years of experience in a health economics setting? Are you looking to formalise your health economics qualification?
The Junior Health Economist post is a permanent position designed to provide the necessary experience or qualifications to allow career progression towards the Health Economist position. Working closely with the Health Economists the postholder will provide specialist, applied economic analysis on a range of issues that have outcomes that impact across, departments, services and the work of NHS Ayrshire and Arran as a whole. The successful candidate will be someone with excellent communication and time management skills. He/she will also possess degree in economics and a postgraduate qualification or a degree in economics combined with 2-3 year's experience working in an applied economics context within the Health Service or health economics environment.
Trainee Health Economist (Fixed Term Position - 3 Years)

Do you have a good degree in economics? Are you struggling to decide between post-graduate study and getting a job?
In collaboration with the University of Sheffield, NHS Ayrshire and Arran have created a trainee post for an economics graduate to become a health economist. As a training post, this opportunity will combine a full-time MSc in Economics and Health Economics from the University of Sheffield with learning 'on the job' within the NHS alongside an established health economics team.
The successful candidate for this innovative post will be someone with excellent communication and well developed computer literacy skills. He/she will also possess a minimum 2:1 degree in economics. Previous knowledge or experience of working within a health or health care environment will be an advantage, as will a driving licence. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract of 3 years. NHS Ayrshire and Arran will meet the costs of the MSc course to EU resident fee level. During the first year, whilst attending the University of Sheffield, NHS Ayrshire and Arran will provide a stipend and on successful completion of the MSc course a salary (A&C 5) will be awarded (subject to future pay awards).
