"Cambridge Moving Exhibition for Hire"
The exhibition "Schnitzler's Hidden Manuscripts", which was on display at Cambridge University
Library throughout November and December 2006, is now preparing to become a moving
exhibition and is looking for universities, libraries and museums with an interest in hosting it free
of charge.
The 6 showcases of the exhibition describe the life and work of Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler
(1862-1931) in a very accessible way, by means of a simple story line, photographs, quotations
taken from the diaries and letters for each life phase, and, above all, unique archival documents
which cannot normally be seen by the general public, including correspondence between
Schnitzler and Sigmund Freud, Rainer Maria Rilke, Thomas and Heinrich Mann, Karl Kraus and
many others. It has been regarded as an interesting exhibition for both experts and laymen. Some
universities, in the UK and on the continent, have already expressed an interested in hosting it.
The applicant institution which would like to host the exhibition is expected only to cover the cost
of its transportation, which is minimal, as it consists of very light material (paper, cloth, and only a
few books). All documents diplayed are colour photocopies of the original manuscripts. This
means that there will be no insurance costs. The quality of the photocopies is of the highest
standard and has been deeply appreciated by viewers during the two months' display in
Cambridge.
For further details, including a list of referees, samples of the written text accompanying the
exhibition, and to discuss a possible timetable, please contact the curator of the exhibition,
