Hi Rachel,
I looked briefly at some of these games, in my literature review of computer
games and public libraries for our Multi-Lib development programme. It was
very much a quick review of specimen sites, not a controlled study. My
personal feeling was that some of these are little more than animated tests,
rather than games as such.

There is loads of other stuff in there that I found, that covers perceptions
of games from various angles. These are very polarised ("The future of
education" versus "work of the devil" !!)
I looked at lots of sources that cover education and museums, so there is
probably some time savings for you as a starter. This was in 2005 though,
and there have been a number of reports since then, including a Futurelab
one about children's views of games in education. I recall it indicated
that younger children see them more positively than older ones, as an
educational tool.:

teachers' attitudes towards the use of computer games in St Johns School, to
assist learning.
