Hi Katie,
There are not accurate figures on the numbers of disabled people, even less
so for wheelchair users. But it is not just wheelchair users who encounter
access barriers in the High Street, other people with mobility impairments
and people with visual impairments spring to mind - but other disabled
people do to.
Anyway the nearest you might get is if you go the DRC website and look under
their research section for the 2006 disability briefing - lots of statistics
about disabled people in and out of work there.

Subject: Wheelchair users in employment in the UK
I am trying to find statistics about the number of wheelchair users in=20=
employment in the UK. I'm not having much luck with ONS data sets or=20
general web searches so would be grateful if anyone knew of any=20
publications with current data. I want the data to back up a point I'm=20=
trying to make in my thesis about shameful levels of access in high stree=
t=20
businesses, which are not really addressed by the DDA as it is not enforc=
ed=20
and relies on individual litigation - by the very people facing barriers =
to=20
work due to lack of enforcement of the DDA! All help appreciated.
All the best
Katie
