Katie,
My experience is that employers that do record disability information will, at the most, record by impairment and not by the equipment used. It may be possible to disaggregate a figure from something like the Disability Rights Commission figures for the number of employed disabled people assuming that something like 5% (iirc) of disabled people are wheelchair users (I can't remember if that includes temporary users, such as those who switch between say crutches and wheelchair).
The bigger issues around high street access may be around those disabled people who don't use a wheelchair, for example, people who use crutches where distance as well as steps etc can be an issue or people with a visual impairment or learning disability where wayfinding may be issues.
Thanks
Paul

Subject: Wheelchair users in employment in the UK
I'm doing a re-send of this as it didn't seem to send the first time.
Apologies to anyone receiving it twice.
I am trying to find statistics about the number of wheelchair users in
employment in the UK. I'm not having much luck with ONS data sets or
general web searches so would be grateful if anyone knew of any
publications with current data. I want the data to back up a point I'm
trying to make in my thesis about shameful levels of access in high street
businesses, which are not really addressed by the DDA as it is not enforced
and relies on individual litigation - by the very people facing barriers to
work due to lack of enforcement of the DDA! All help appreciated.
All the best
Katie
