Statistics on Research and Development in the European Union (12 January
2007)In relation to GDP, EU27 R&D expenditure was stable at 1.84% in
2005. In real terms, EU27 R&D expenditure grew by 1.5% per year between
2001 and 2005.

Commission launches new information source on research systems and
policies in the EU (12 January 2007)The Commission has launched on 12
January ERAWATCH, a new online information platform on research systems
and policies within the European Union. ERAWATCH supports the ongoing
construction of the European Research Area (ERA) by providing policy
makers and policy analysts working in the field of science and research
with condensed and updated information and analysis on the development
of research systems and policies in all Member States of the European
Union plus selected other countries. It contains information on recent
policy documents, research programmes, funding agencies, research
performance as well as major indicators such as expenditure,
publications and patents.

and telemedicine applications and a wide range of other medical ICT
applications and on the convergence of information and communication

care, cost reductions, workflow efficiency, and widespread availability
of healthcare services.

Public forum on the availability and robustness of
electronic communication networks
18 January 2007 Brussels, BelgiumAlcatel-Lucent's Bell Labs and
professional services organizations carried out a study for the
Commission on the availability and robustness of electronic
communication networks. The study provides insights in the availability
and security provisioning of electronic communication networks and makes
a number of key recommendations to enhance their protection and
resilience. The recommendations are directed to the European Commission,
Member States and private sector. The results of the study can serve as
an agenda for a multi-stakeholder dialogue in Europe. At this event, the
study team will present the main findings of the study to a broad
audience that comprises representatives of governments, industry and
users (such as banking institutions).

E-business in Europe 2006
In 2006, studies by e-Business W@tch cover 10 sectors, including
manufacturing industries, construction and services. A cornerstone of
the monitoring activities is a representative survey among
decision-makers in European enterprises about their use of e-Business.
To complement the statistical picture, e-Business W@tch has conducted
about 75 case studies in enterprises around the world.
