This area of course site stats has bothered us too and what I found is
posted at http://www2.le.ac.uk/institution/lts/bb/Issue/courseStats/.
Furthermore the tracking information on individual items or folders also
very tricky to use. See
http://www2.le.ac.uk/institution/lts/bb/tips/tracking/.

Hi Lauren, we do use the course stats feature we have a collection of
SQL queries that we run against the Blackboard database, if you drop a
mail off list I will send u some of the queries we run.

Subject: Course Statistics
Hi Everyone,
We are currently compiling usage statistics for each course in
Blackboard but we cannot get our heads around the Course Statistics
feature! The figures for total usage seem to vary depending on the
filter and section you look at- for instance, in an 'Overall Summary of
Usage', Section 1: Access by application gives us a figure for 'total
accesses' which is completely different from the 'total accesses' under
Section 2: Access by Date. Also, this report gives us a figure of zero
accesses for 'Content Areas' but if we run a report using the 'Accesses
by Content Area' filter, it lists a high number of accesses for Course
Documents, Assignments and so on.
How do you all use the Course Statistics feature and which data do you
think gives the most reliable picture of student usage? Any advice
would be greatly appreciated as we are totally confused about how to
interpret the data!
Thanks very much,
Lauren Smith
