Amy,
These look good, and obviously a good technique to get the staff
involved.
I will only comment on two. * 1. is a common request and surprising no
one has produced a useful building block.
* 2. we have carried out with a number of student groups. In one case
we invited students to each create two questions, with answers and
feedback, in any of five different question formats, but using a
template to ensure we could automatically create them within the system.
We had a mechanism to ensure they each produced questions on different
topics. With over 100 students, they got over 200 revision questions. We
had to edit some of the questions for quality or formatting, but most
were just fine.
Two conclusions:
1. Students use a different form of language when giving feedback ( heh
dude no! see Jones' third lecture).
2. Good students write good questions, less good students write less
good questions.
Technology: we completed this utilising web scripts and Questionmark,
but I am sure the approach would work with Blackboard, maybe with
Respondus to help. I have the details somewhere if you want a greater
description.

Hi all and happy new year
A couple of ideas have been suggested to us by staff and students at
the
University College to improve Blackboard:
* Tutorial sign-up system for students to book an appointment with
their tutor.
* Interactive tests where learners also set the questions.
* Student profile area like the staff profile area on Blackboard.
* Various suggestions for improving the discussion boards, such as
making them more image-centric (like the University of the Arts
image board building block), and making them more like the
v-bulletin systems used heavily elsewhere on the Web.
* Rolling exhibition of work with random display feature.
I wondered what you think about these ideas and if any of them have
been
suggested to you by your staff and students?
Have you developed or re-used any building blocks that do this?
What was your experience and do you have any recommendations?
The University College has recently transferred to version 7.
Many thanks for your help.
