Scholarships
HSBC is providing two scholarships a year for students
on the MA Sinology or the MA Chinese Literature at
the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS),
University of London. The scholarships cover both tuition
fees at the Home/ EU rate and a maintenance allowance.
Eligibility
The HSBC Scholarships are meant for full-time Home and EU qualified
students. Successful candidates may not hold these scholarships along
with any other scholarship.
Academic & Language Requirements
The MA Sinology and the MA Chinese
Literature are both taught in the Department
of the Languages and Cultures of China and
Inner Asia. These are language-based
programmes meant for students who already
have knowledge of Chinese, either because it
is their native language or because they have
studied it before.
The minimum level required to be allowed
onto the course is the equivalent of three
years full-time study. For the MA Sinology,
knowledge of Classical Chinese at a similar
level is also required.
HSBC Scholarship Degree Programmes
The MA Sinology provides training in advanced Chinese literary and
documentary sources, with emphasis on the skills, methods and resources
required to carry out language-based academic research in Chinese Studies.
It is an excellent programme to prepare for future PhD research.
The MA Chinese Literature enables students to engage critically with the
varied aspects of Chinese literature. The degree covers both pre-modern and
modern literatures of China. It includes the study of literary works
written in
the original languages, as well as an introduction to literary theory.
