The Geoffrey J. Burton Memorial Fund was established in 1986 with the
aim of providing financial assistance to students (postgraduates
studying for a higher degree or first-year postdoctoral junior
scientists) based in the UK travelling to any conferences or meetings at
which they will be presenting a paper or poster. The Fund was renamed in
2002 to the Vision Scientists Memorial Fund so that more awards could be
developed. The Geoffrey J. Burton Memorial Travel Award will continue as
before. Donations to the fund can be directed to the AVA secretariat and
cheques etc. should be made payable to "The Vision Scientists Memorial
Fund".
The maximum award to any one individual is 500 UK pounds.
A number of awards will be made once a year. The closing date for the
award is the last day in February each year and will be for conferences
held from 1st March to the following end of February (i.e. there will
not be retrospective awards). Applicants do not have to be presenting at
an AVA conference. The recipient of the award is required to write a
report of the conference they attended which will be included on the AVA
website.
