The internal sickness absence procedure is an HR one. I should disentangle
yourself and get HR to own what they advise the employee. I believe a GP
has recently been stuck off re sick notes, so GPs will be more wary anyway.
I think many HR labour under the misconception that sicknotes are for them -
they are not, they are for SSP purposes only - they happen to be used by
companies, but are not a legal requirement for GPs!

I am being advised by my HR department that if someone wishes to take
holiday whilst off sick that I am to advise them that they need to be
signed fit by their GP for this period. I advised an employee to do this
recently and there GP has offlisted them. The GPs reasoning being that this
is unethical and illegal.
Would welcome your comments. Is this usual procedure!!
