Thanks for your interest. I don't think the "gulf" is nearly as big
some of the psci com posts suggested...
We ran a postgrad version of the same conference last year, and there
are some details of that here:
http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/humanities/sciencecommunicationgroup/postgraduateconference/
It had more of a practise/ theory combination, but we ended up a bit
over-run by people banging their hands on the table saying "the public
need to know more science". Which is fine, but we wanted a day when we
didn't HAVE to engage in debate with such points of view, hence the
emphasis on critical academic work this year.
After this year's conference, we'll try to put up a similar site, but
it'll depend on what the speakers are happy with. I'll put you on the
list of interested people, but we'll probably post a link to it on psi
com (if I dare after yesterday...) too

As a science journalist who is also researches science journalism I welcome dialogue between practice and theory and am dismayed at the gulf that seems to exist between them at times. Alas I will be unlikely to be able to attend as I am based in Sydney, Australia but would be interested in any papers to come out of the conference.
