1. FP7 meeting
Many thanks to all of you who have responded to my previous emails about
our 23 January meeting to brainstorm ideas on space weather proposals
for FP7. If you want to attend and have not yet replied, please let me
know by end of Wednesday 10 January. I have to supply a list of
attendees to our hosts.
The meeting will take place at Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP).
IAP is located in Paris close to the Denfert-Rochereau metro station
(lines 4, 6, and RER-B). RER line B gives direct access to Charles de
Gaulle airport and to the Gare du Nord. For full details on the location
of IAP go to their web site (http://www.iap.fr/) and follow the
appropriate links (available in French and English). This includes links
to details of hotels near IAP.
I will circulate an agenda nearer the date. The meeting will start at
09:30 and finish around 17:30.
2. Astronet and space weather
In my email of 2 January, I reported that there are some space weather
elements in the draft report "Science Vision for European Astronomy"
prepared by Astronet (see
http://www.astronet-eu.org/IMG/pdf/report_svwg_3.pdf). I have now
drafted a short document giving SWWT comments on these elements and made
this available for review at
http://listserv.cclrc.ac.uk/files/SWWT/swwt_astronet_v1.pdf. The
comments seek to raise awareness of the breadth of European interest in
space weather (which is much broader than that in the Science Vision
document) and invite Astronet to liaise with other European players. If
you have any comments on this draft, please let me know by end of
Thursday, 11 January.
If you want to send personal comments direct to Astronet, you can submit
them via their web forum at
http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/sciencevision/.
