Just to say 'many thanks' to everyone who sent in comments on the first draft of the revised Social Policy benchmark statement. I think/hope I can say that I was able to amend the statement in the light of the suggestions made without too much trouble and without the piece as a whole losing shape. This needless to say was less a feat on my part than an indicator of the sensible nature of the points raised and the relative ease of getting them into the document. For this reason (apart from time, which ran out) there was little point in doing another round of consultation because all the comments made have been incorporated pretty much as suggested.
Amendments included:
- a clearer statement (supplied!) in the introduction about devolution
- an attempt to be more upbeat re. 'employability' issues, Bologna process etc - again in introduction
- generally clearer statements about subnational/supranational/global dimensions of social policy
- the addition of clearer bullet points/statements about the policy making/implementation/administrative processes associated with the study of Social Policy and Social Administration
- a slight tweaking of the bullet point on 'user perspectives'
- some reworking of the knowledge and skills that 'threshold' and 'typical' students should be able to demonstrate
I sent the final draft around the SPA Exec and, following a couple of very minor observations, have now sent it to QAA 'from the SPA Executive Committee'. QAA will now format, etc, and then send back. As soon as the final version is received, early in the new year, we shall circulate on this mailbase.
That's about it - Yippeeee
