Dear List,
I am very pleased to say that the National Trust is, at last, moving
towards a full catalogue of the library at Bateman's. Many will know
that this has been a bee in my bonnet for four or five years. A
preliminary survey is well under way at Wimpole Hall, and the Kipling
material there will obviously have to be linked with that at
Bateman's, particularly as some was originally from Rudyard's own
library.
It seems unlikely that there will be exhaustive notes on marginalia,
etc, but this was never my particular concern. As always, researchers
with a particular interests can approach the Trust for permission to
inspect particular volumes.
I have been asked by the current cataloguer at Wimploe Hall for the
"life dates" of the Editors of the Journal, for MARC catalogue notes.
With help from David Page, I have everything except those for W.
Arthur Young.. Could anyone help, please?
Regards,
John
