Thanks for the comments on this. Advent Calendars were popular in the US
when I was a child, but maybe need explaining now. They are a cardboard
calendar, often shaped like a building, with little shut windows you could
open for each date until Christmas, each window revealing a picture.
The "series of images" technique is one I've always been attracted to. I
suspect Bob Dylan picked it up from Allen Ginsberg. One of the most
memorable examples of the technique, and the earliest one I can think of, is
Lorca's inLament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias, but I don't know if he invented it.
