The School of Fine and Performing Arts and the Department of Art at
Portland State University invites applications for a tenure track
position in the area of Art History.
Position Summary
The Department of Art at Portland State University seeks a tenure track
Assistant Professor of Art History specializing in Renaissance Art. The
9 month, 1.0 FTE, tenure track position begins September 16, 2007. This
position would report directly to the Department Chair. Salary would be
commensurate with experience.
The primary duty is to teach seven courses per year in a quarter system
at undergraduate and graduate levels in art history as determined by
Department Chair. Candidates will be expected to work with other art
historians to develop the program and curriculum in the art history
area. This position also requires student advising, departmental and
university service, and community outreach. In addition, professional
activities of a scholarly or creative nature are expected as well as a
willingness to pursue actively external funding resources.
Required and Preferred Skills
The successful candidate will have Ph.D. in Renaissance Art History.
Further, candidates must have significant teaching experience at
university/college level beyond teaching assistantships, possess an
expansive knowledge of subject field, and articulate a strong scholarly
agenda and be able to work or learn to work in digital slide format.
In addition it is preferred but not required that candidates be able to
work within a MFA program and be willing to develop on-line survey
courses. A solid publication background and/or the ability to teach
Architectural History, Baroque or other strong secondary interest is
desired but not required.
Credentials Required
Ph.D. in Renaissance Art History, significant teaching experience at the
university or college level beyond teaching assistantship, and strong
professional accomplishments.
