1.1 Christmas closure
The ALT office will be closed for the Christmas holiday from 22 December
2006 and will reopen on 2 January 2007.
1.2 ALT and JISC infoNet - Christmas Charitable Donations
Once again we are giving a charitable donation to Oxfam to help to
train teachers in poor communities and/or provide teaching kits which
will contain all they need, from teaching guides to blackboards.

3.2 From the USA, an IMM Technical Brief "Software Trends in HE: 2002-

will be followed by an analysis using data shortly to be issued by

3.3 JISC news
3.3.1 UK Access Management Federation launched by JISC
- run by UKERNA on behalf of JISC and Becta, based on Shibboleth
technology. Universities and colleges are being invited to join the
federation, which will bring the UK education and research sectors a
step closer to achieving single sign-on to network and online resources.

6.1 Provision of an eLearning Environment – Virtual Classroom Network
Pre-contract consultation
Doncaster Council will shortly be advertising under the OJEU Regulations
for a Partner to develop a Virtual Classroom Network for Doncaster’s
secondary schools as part of our drive to raise standards of attainment
in our schools. The authority wishes to enter into discussions with
organisations who would like to contribute to the development of this
work. This work will build on the success of South Yorkshire E-Learning
Programme and is similarly funded through EU ERDF Objective One funding.

6.2 Key Research Challenges in Science and Mathematics Education
The ESRC, working with RCUK partners, is inviting outline research
