Greetings!
It is often said that the Gods of the Old Religion become the Devils of
the new. In terms of the rise of Christianity there seems some truth in
this. Baal may turn up and Beelzebub and Astarte as Astoroth in the old
grimoires as infernal beings that can be commanded by invoking Christian
powers.
However I think in the last hundred years or so we have also seen the
Devils of the Old Religion made the Gods of the New. Crowley, of course,
identified with the Beast of the Apocalypse. I wonder if there may be
something of this dynamic in the way some of us identify with being a
witch. There can be something empowering about embracing an identity
that is superficially appears bad and operating it in a way that is
good.
My best wishes
Ben
