Colin,
You should find it relatively painless to upgrade. There is some
information here that you might find useful. If you use the new version of
YAIM then watch out for the new port range definitions. Get in touch if
there are any problems.

Is there a problem with just running something like
$ ssh root@host "/sbin/service dcache-pool restart" > /dev/null
